Prof. Harra's research is based around solar activity. Her research career has predominantly focused on understanding the trigger of solar flares and coronal mass ejections, and solar wind formation and propagation. She has also been involved in the design and development of space instruments. These include the EUV Imaging Spectrometer onboard the Hinode spacecraft which was launched in 2006, and the EUV Imager onboard the Solar Orbiter spacecraft. Currently Louise and her team at PMOD/WRC are leading the development of the SoSpIM instrument which will fly onboard the JAXA led SOLAR-C spacecraft. She is an affiliated professor at ETH and director of external page PMOD/WRC.
